Summer!

June 18, 2012

Hello healthy readers!
It's finally the day we've been waiting for! It's SUMMER! Exams are finally over! (Except there are provincials left.)
I feel like my progress overall physically has escalated.  My motivations have definitely changed and I definitely want to continue pursuing physical activities.  Previously in the summers, I would just watch netflix movies all night long until it was 6:00am.  Now, for the summer I have plans with my dad and older brother to do outdoor activities like hiking and kayaking.  As well as going for runs with running buddies.  (I've got like a whole group now! WOOH!)
So, I am excited for the new physical plans I have towards this summer.  This of course, I plan to continue even after the summer.  Even during the winter, I plan on taking walks if there is snow outside.  I don't plan to stop the physical activities I want to pursue. Especially because I want to start tae kwon do again.
Thank you Ms.Phillips for the wonderful year and for introducing me to new activities!
I hope all of you have a wonderful summer! May your future be a great one.

Miss Representation

Dear readers,
I want to talk about a serious topic today.
Last week, we watched a documentary called "Miss Representation."
Now before watching this documentary, I was much aware of everything they had said.  I even prepared a speech for it that I wanted to say for the speech meet.  Unfortunately, I chickened out and did a whole completely different topic.  I was even going to say the speech in front of the school with Mr.Ranu's help. Sadly he has left, and I don't know who to go to anymore with this idea of mine.
This issue was (and still is) such a great deal for me that I even wanted to start my own campaign to raise awareness worldwide.  Especially in this era, more and more people are going through depression when dealing with this.  But again, I was not brave enough.
That is why as soon as I start grade 11, I want to start this campaign and say the speech I wanted to.  Hopefully, I can find an awesome teacher who is willing to support me.
I am 100% on board with the documentary, and they even expressed so much more information that I wasn't even aware of.  So many things especially towards politics showed so much degradation towards Female Rights that it disgusted me.
Appearance is such a huge thing to everyone (especially towards females) that they are willing to completely change themselves just to fit in.  It's affecting who they are and were as a person.  It's honestly incredibly sad to see the world change this way.  It's 2013 for freaking sake! So why does it feel like we are regressing forward?
Turning back into history, females were always looked down upon.  It wasn't until around 60's and higher did things actually start to turn around for us.  But recently, it feels like it's all re-starting over and everything that all those wonderful, beautiful, successful women who tried to turn things around for us is just completely being forgotten.
There is so much I want to say about this that I don't even know where to start!
The main thing I want to point out is that yes, I feel like a hypocrite when I tell my friends not to look at themselves as if they were ugly people.  This is because through my eyes it's harder for me to look for bad points about people around me.  I genuinely think with all my heart that every PERSON out there is a BEAUTIFUL person.  So why am I hypocrite?
...Because it's easy to look for the beauty in everyone else, but very hard to find it in me.
Yes I also go through so much self-consciousness that it's hard to look at people in the eyes sometimes because I feel like I am blinding them with my ugly face.  I stare down when I walk through the hallways.  I go through it.  I say so much talk when it's even hard for me to live through this world filled with so much angst and judging looks.
That's why I want to make a change.  Because I don't go through this alone.  I'm not alone. So many others go through the same thing I do.  And I need that push that will help me strive and accomplish what I want to do by spreading awareness.  I don't want absolutely ANYONE to ever feel like they are ugly and not good enough.  Because no one, no matter how annoying or even mean you are, no one deserves to feel like this.

Super Sorry

May 31, 2013

Hello healthy readers!
I`m super sorry I have not been adding posts lately! I have such a busy schedule it`s so hard to keep track of what I`m supposed to do next! (This is what happens when you want to do everything all at once.  The world is so awesome there`s so many things to do!)
Anyways, I wanted to talk about my re-run beep test score!
*Drum Roll* 7.9!
Wooop! Yes it may not be a lot and I have definitely done better, but I think that so far this year that is the best score I have! If I`d just gone that extra 5-10 seconds I would have reached 8.  But sadly, my leg (that I have to get checked at the doctor`s) could not handle it anymore.  So you`re probably wondering why I`m so proud of that score even if I`d done better.  Well first of all not only was I dead tired but my leg was in throbbing pain and I pushed all the way through.  I was like: "Nope. I gotta do better today. You can do it." So that's what I did.
Even though after I felt like:
All joking aside, it felt like such a good accomplishment and I really did feel proud of myself.  Especially because on Tuesday I got 7.2 and I knew I could have done so much better.  That's why I told myself you need to get a higher mark and I needed to push myself.

Once I get my leg checked, and I'm not too stressed with finals, I definitely can't wait to start running again especially as the weather keeps on getting better.

First of May

May 1, 2013

Hello healthy readers!
It's the first of May!
I feel extremely proud for Alejandra and I. We were instructed to just walk around, but we decided to run!
We ran and we didn't stop.  Honestly, it felt so good.  The beautiful air breeze was more refreshing than anything.  We ran around the pond as well and didn't stop until we reached the lower field.
There was a moment when I wanted to stop because my bum was in pain due to yesterday's locomotive workout, but I pushed through and kept on running.
I definitely did not feel bad when we were told to pick up garbage.  I think it's great to keep the school community grounds clean.  (Although I do not like how the latex gloves made my hand smell.)
On top of that, the gorgeous weather made everything a million times better as well.

Fencing

April 16-18, 2013

En Garde!
Hello healthy readers!
Blades in the air fighting like medieval swordsmen to protect the princesses in the castles against fire breathing dragons.  I felt like I was brought centuries back while we were fencing.  I wonder what it would feel like using real swords... They must be extremely heavy!
On April 16, we had a summary of what fencing is about.  We watched a video and we were able to see all the blades that are used for Olympic fencing.  It was a get-to-know the basics day. We also played really fun games that let us practice the basics for fencing.
On April 17, we practiced lunging and extending.  I learned that it's best to keep your arm out first then lunge.  If you lunge the same time as putting out your arm, you won't receive a longer distance. We were able to use and practice with rubber fencing swords.  We also got to wear real fencing outfits!  We had a chest protector, a fancy helmet that protects you no matter how hard you hit it, gloves, and a fencing jacket that you have to zip up through the side.
On April 18, we were able to use real fencing swords! It was set up like a real fencing tournament.  We had buzzers and everything! It was fun to poke people with swords.  It's not everyday that people tell you that's it's okay to hit people. (Haha!)
It was such a privilege to be able to work with Diana! I am very happy and thankful that I was able to have the opportunity to fence.  It was an awesome experience!

Midterm Reflection

April 14, 2013

I feel like my progress in the class has definitely increased from when I first started out.  My interests on physical activities have for sure widened.  All the memorable opportunities I have been given have all been such a blast!
My view on being physical has totally changed.  I feel like I am able to find many different activities that are not only very good for you but at the same time are enjoyable.  It also doesn't feel like a chore or something that I HAVE to do.  I've never had a negative perspective about being physical but it wasn't always something I pushed myself to do.  Now, I know that being physical is definitely something I WANT to do.  It doesn't feel like it is something required but more of having exciting opportunities.  I now know that I am able to have fun yet be physical at the same time.
All the fitness days we had during Tuesdays and Thursdays have felt absolutely amazing after the workouts.  During the workout definitely feels like your pushing hills and mountains to be together but after the workout always feels like such an accomplishment.  Waking up feeling all the sores all over my body is definitely worth it.  This is something I wish to continue even after Get Fit.
The days when I feel like I push myself so hard that I feel like I will faint, is definitely when we are running.  Whether it's a pond run, community run, or even a hill run, I feel like that is when I am able to push myself the hardest.  Being able to run along-side a friend and cheering each other on is definitely what pushes me beyond of what I think I am capable of.
I definitely still feel like I can go beyond what I am doing now.  I would like to continue and do even more with my progress now.
I believe that I deserve an 88% based on my perseverance, determination, and attitude.

Leadership Role

April 9, 2013

Hello healthy readers!
Sorry for the lack of posting.  (Oh, what a busy schedule.)
So last Tuesday, I was able to have the wonderful opportunity to work with such adorable kids in grade 1.  It was a nice take on letting our class have leadership roles.
We had two grade 1 classes that were split into groups.
Our station was a new intake on "Simon Says."  We had the same concept but added many physical movements to let the children be more active.  Some physical movements we would tell them to do is "Hop like a bunny, do jumping jacks, twirl, jump on one leg, etc."
One of the stations did a dance.  The kids were very ecstatic towards the "Gangnam Style" song by PSY.  So whenever the song went on, almost every group we had would get distracted and started dancing.  It was very cute.  I was very impressed as well by the potential break-dancers that were there.
I enjoyed the energetic positive attitude most of the young kids had.  What an exciting perspective towards everything that children have! It's quite inspiring.
We are returning again and I honestly can't wait.  It was an awesome experience and I love this leadership role that we are luckily granted.
Thanks for your patience and reading my blog!

Interim Reports

March 6, 2013

So far this semester, I have been working out and doing many types of physical activities.
I do feel like I have been pushing myself but it doesn't seem enough. I plan on pushing myself even more to be fully satisfied.
I really do wish I can have the determination to eat less and more healthy. That is something I am struggling with and am planning to improve on.
I really enjoy with how the year is going and how we have been able to try different activities that we ourselves can see returning back to. So far, the two new recent activities we currently did makes me extremely positive that I will return and do those activities again.
Thanks for all these wonderful opportunities Ms.Phillips!
I believe I deserve a G because my attitude, and perseverance so far have been a positive one. I really wish to keep it up and push myself even more!

Snowshoeing

March 5, 2013

What an adventure!
Snowshoeing on Mt. Seymour was a wonderful experience. Not only was the view incredibly mesmerizing, but the experience was absolutely tremendous.
It was my first time snowshoeing and I absolutely loved it. I think I just found a new love for a new activity.
It was really awesome because down here in Surrey, we don't get snow. Snowshoeing is basically hiking, which is also another activity that I enjoy. I didn't get too tired even though I thought I would be exhausted. I honestly wished we had more time so that we could have kept on going. I learned so much about what to take with you when you do any type of excursions.
Snowshoeing is something I would really love to do again.
Hopefully we could do this as an activity for the outdoors club as well!

Ice Skating

March 4th, 2013

Get fit class skating at Newton Arena. Woohoo!
Skating at Newton Arena was such an accomplishment of me. I have not skated since grade 4. Also, I did not fall! Not even once! I was also able to skate without the skating helper guide.
I felt so happy because for me, that is a very difficult thing to accomplish. Everybody has rollerskating background experience and I do not.
I am definitely looking forward to returning in the future with friends and family.

Tae Kwon Do

February 28, 2013

Hah-yah! *breaks board*
My current progress to fitness is the same. I have been doing more physical activity, but my intake on food has progressively increased.
So last Friday, my class and I attended Woo Kim for a Tae Kwon Do class. It was fun and I felt very comfortable with what we did because I used to do Tae Kwon Do as well.
We did high kicks, stretching, and kicking shields. I felt like I had an extreme advantage because I am a blue belt. It felt nice to be able to go back to Tae Kwon Do because I haven't done this particular activity since last year.
I am definitely going to continue during the summer!
Looking forward to our next Tae Kwon Do class!

My Goals

Hello healthy readers!
As you are aware from the description, I am in the "Get Fit" class in school.  My first post that I wanted to talk about is my goals for this year and just my expectations for this class.
Previously I was able to push myself extremely hard and be able to achieve goals that I had set out for myself.  Currently, I haven't had the determination to push myself as hard as I would like to.  I think it's because of stress for every other school activity.  How do you find the time to exercise while you suffer endlessly through the process of education?
I joined this class hoping to find more of a support from my peers considering I do not have the perseverance to do it alone.  My goal is to hopefully be able to run as much as I was able to during grade 8.  My other goal includes to eat more healthy and run more.
As for my expectations in this class, I expect it to be as awesome as previous students described it to be.
I hope to have an exciting and challenging time for the class this year!
~Thanks for taking the time to read this.
